Rich's Philosophy

Be Weird In The Water

"Catchin' barrels you could only catch on knees — but most people are too cool for that."

Kneesurfing. Finless. Board backwards. Sitting down. Surfing weird is surfing free. Rich has been doing it for years and it’s the most fun you can have in the water. The crowd thins out, the smiles multiply, and you find waves nobody else is on.

This section is dedicated to everyone brave enough to look weird and feel amazing.

The Story

How Surfing Got Rich To Nosara

"I chased surf my whole life. Eventually it stopped moving and I caught up with it — right here in Nosara. I'm not going anywhere."

Rich’s relationship with surfing goes back decades. It’s the thread that connects everything — the music, the community, the real estate. He didn’t come to Nosara to sell houses. He came to surf. The rest followed naturally.

He loves teaching. Loves filming. Loves watching someone catch their first real wave. That’s why richburnam.com exists — to share all of it, honestly, with whoever wants to find it.

Saturday Board Swap

"Bring a board you don't ride. Leave with one you will. That's the whole thing."

Saturday mornings at the main beach in Nosara, Rich runs the Board Swap. Surfers of every level bring boards they’ve grown out of — or never use — and trade, sell, or give them away to people who need them. Local kids get boards. Visiting surfers find something to ride. No entry fee. No agenda. Just boards and people who love the water.
