Rich Burnam · Nosara + Nicaragua

Rich's
Retreats

One week a month in Nosara. One week a month in Nicaragua. Surf, music, food, real estate — the real version of both places, with someone who knows them cold.

This isn’t a yoga retreat with a surf lesson tacked on. It’s a week inside the life Rich has been building — the waves, the live music, the food, the real estate conversations, the Grateful Gringo philosophy in practice. Come for Nosara. Come for Nicaragua. Come for both. Small groups. Real access.

What This Actually Is

A Week Inside the Life Rich's Been Building

"I've had people show up in Nosara and leave two weeks later wishing they could stay forever. I want to build something that gives them the real version of what's possible here."

Rich has been in Nosara long enough to know where the best waves break at different tides, which local businesses deserve your money, what the real estate picture looks like from the inside, and how a community either pulls together or falls apart. The retreats are his way of sharing that — directly, without a filter, in the place where it all lives.
Small groups. A week in the water. Evenings at Coconut Harry’s with After Surf Band. Real estate conversations for anyone who wants them. Time with the people and projects that define what it means to be a Grateful Gringo.

What You Actually Do

Five Things. Real Access.

This is built around what Rich actually does here — not a manufactured program. Surf, music, food, real estate, community. The real version of all of it.

A Sample Week

What Your Days Look Like

This is a rough shape — not a rigid schedule. The ocean doesn't run on one, and neither does Rich.

AM

Dawn · 5:45 AM

First Light in the Water

Up before the wind comes up. Check the surf report, grab your board, walk to the beach. Rich knows these breaks in the dark. The first session of the day is the best one.

BF

Mid-Morning · 9 AM

Breakfast + Real Talk

The group comes together over food. This is where the real conversations happen — about the session, about Nosara, about what people are thinking of building here. No agenda. Just people who just surfed together.

AF

Afternoon · 1–5 PM

Community, Culture, Property

Depending on the day: a visit to Dreamcatcher Foundation, a Board Swap, a local business tour, a real estate walkthrough for anyone who wants it, or just free time to explore Nosara on your own terms.

SU

Sunset + Evening · 6 PM on

Coconut Harry's + After Surf Band

Most nights, the group heads to Coconut Harry’s. ASB plays. The bar fills up with the people who make Nosara what it is. This isn’t manufactured — it’s just what happens here most nights.

07

Final Day

The Debrief — What Are You Taking Home?

Last morning surf, then a group conversation. What did the week shift? What are people thinking differently about? For some it’s surf. For some it’s real estate. For some it’s just perspective on how to live. That’s the point.

Two Locations

Nosara + Nicaragua

One week a month in Nosara. One week a month in Nicaragua. Two completely different experiences — same philosophy, same small group energy, same real access.

Week 1 Option

Nosara, Costa Rica

Consistent warm-water surf, world-class instruction, live music at Coconut Harry’s, the Board Swap, Dreamcatcher Foundation, Rich’s Nosara Guide in person. This is the town Rich has been building for years. You get the inside version.
→Surf lessons + progression (all levels)
→Wakeboarding + foil boarding on flat days
→Music lessons, jamming + ASB live most nights
→Community access + real estate tour (optional)
→Family-friendly · Good food · Pura vida

Week 2 Option

Nicaragua

Rich’s favorite surf getaway. The Boom. Nahualapa. Playa Colorado. World-class waves and a raw, unpolished energy that Nosara lost a long time ago. Plus the real estate opportunity — 7 acres of Pacific coastline that Rich is personally invested in.

→World-class surf — The Boom, Nahualapa, Playa Colorado
→Wakeboarding + foil boarding available
→Music sessions + local culture
→Nicaragua Project real estate tour
→Family-friendly · Fresh seafood · Raw beauty

Is This For You?

Who Rich's Retreats Are Built For

The Surfer

You want to surf for real

First-timer or experienced — it doesn’t matter. You want to be in the water with someone who knows the breaks, the equipment, and what progression actually looks like. Not a group lesson at a tourist school.

The Musician

You want to play, learn, create

Beginner or seasoned — you want to actually make music in a place that inspires it. Lessons, jamming, writing, playing with a real band at a real bar. Nosara has a sound. Come find yours.

The Investor

You're thinking Nosara or Nicaragua

You want a week on the ground with someone who has a genuine stake in both places. No pitch, no brochure — just an honest conversation about what’s here, what’s coming, and whether any of it makes sense for you.

The Family

You want to bring the people you love

Both locations are family-friendly. Surf for the kids, water activities when the waves aren’t right, good food, music evenings, a pace that doesn’t grind anyone down. Nosara and Nicaragua are good places to bring a family.

From Rich

I’ve been thinking about doing retreats for a long time. Not because I want to be a retreat host — but because the number of people who come down here for a week and leave wishing they could stay forever has gotten hard to ignore.

There’s something about Nosara that does something to people. The water. The music. The community that’s been built here. The pace. The way things that feel complicated at home start to feel simple after a few days in the ocean.

What I want to build is something honest. Small groups. People who are genuinely curious about surfing, about this place, about what it looks like to build a life you actually want. We’ll surf together. We’ll eat together. We’ll have real conversations. If you want to look at real estate, I’ll show you the real picture — not the pitch.

I’m not doing this at scale. Small groups, real access, no performance. If that sounds like something you’d get something out of — get on the list.
